Tesamorelin calculator

Tesamorelin is the one GHRH analog with a current FDA label, approved to reduce visceral belly fat in people with HIV lipodystrophy. The original Egrifta dose was 2 mg under the skin once daily; the current Egrifta SV dose is 1.4 mg and Egrifta WR is 1.28 mg, the lower numbers reflecting newer formulations.

10 mg + 2 mL = 5 mg/mL, so 2 mg = 0.4 mL = 40 units; 1 mg = 20 units, 1.4 mg = 28 units. A 5 mg vial with 1 mL gives the same 5 mg/mL.

About the Tesamorelin math

Tesamorelin is a synthetic 44-amino-acid peptide with a modification at its N-terminal end. Suppliers list it in 5 mg and 10 mg vials as a lyophilized powder. The example here uses a 1 mg draw, which keeps every number in milligrams. A 5 mg vial with 1 mL of bacteriostatic water is 5 mg/mL. A 1 mg draw is 1 divided by 5, which is 0.2 mL, or 20 units on a U-100 syringe, and the vial holds five draws. A 10 mg vial with 2 mL is the same 5 mg/mL, so 1 mg is again 20 units and the vial holds ten draws. With 1 mL in the 10 mg vial the concentration is 10 mg/mL and 1 mg drops to 0.1 mL, or 10 units. Going the other way, 5 mg in 2 mL is 2.5 mg/mL and 1 mg stretches to 0.4 mL, or 40 units. A 2 mg draw at 5 mg/mL is 40 units; at 2.5 mg/mL it is 80 units, which needs a 1 mL barrel.

Tesamorelin questions

How much tesamorelin should I take?

The labeled doses are 1.28 mg (Egrifta WR), 1.4 mg (Egrifta SV) or 2 mg (original Egrifta) once daily under the skin of the abdomen. Off-label users report 1 to 2 mg daily. On a 10 mg vial in 2 mL, 2 mg is 40 units.

How many units is 2 mg of tesamorelin?

With 10 mg reconstituted in 2 mL you have 5 mg/mL, so 2 mg is 0.4 mL, which is 40 units. 1 mg is 20 units. With 5 mg in 1 mL the numbers are identical.

How many units is 1 mg of Tesamorelin at 5 mg in 1 mL?

5 mg divided by 1 mL is 5 mg/mL. 1 mg divided by 5 mg/mL is 0.2 mL. On a U-100 syringe 0.2 mL is 20 units, and the vial holds 5 such draws.

How much bacteriostatic water for a 10 mg vial of Tesamorelin?

Any volume the vial holds. 1 mL gives 10 mg/mL, 2 mL gives 5 mg/mL and 3 mL gives 3.33 mg/mL (rounded). A 2 mg draw is 20 units, 40 units or 60 units at those three concentrations.

How many 2 mg draws are in a 5 mg vial of Tesamorelin?

5 divided by 2 is 2.5, so two full 2 mg draws with 1 mg left over. With 1 mL of solvent (5 mg/mL) each 2 mg draw is 0.4 mL, or 40 units, and the leftover 1 mg is 20 units.
