Glutathione dosage
Glutathione is a three-amino-acid antioxidant your cells make, sold in 200 to 1,500 mg vials. Clinic IV doses run 600 to 1,200 mg per session; the best controlled trial gave 1,400 mg IV three times a week for 4 weeks and was well tolerated with a mild, non-significant effect. Subcutaneous use is 200 to 400 mg two or three times a week. Oral glutathione is poorly absorbed, which is why people inject it.
Basis: clinical trial (Hauser et al. 2009, Movement Disorders, 21 Parkinson's patients, randomized, double-blind, 4 weeks). well tolerated, no safety concerns, no significant difference from placebo
- How often
- 2 to 3 times a week
- When
- any time; evening is common because some people feel sleepy after
- How long
- 4 to 8 weeks, then reassess; clinics run ongoing weekly sessions
- Route
- subcutaneous (abdomen, slow push) or IV in a clinic; intramuscular on the Indian label
- Storage
- lyophilized: fridge, protect from light; reconstituted: fridge, use within 3 to 7 days (commonly reported), much shorter than peptides
Dose ranges by source
| Range | Per | Basis | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,400 mg IV three times a week | infusion | clinical trial (Hauser et al. 2009, Movement Disorders, 21 Parkinson's patients, randomized, double-blind, 4 weeks) | well tolerated, no safety concerns, no significant difference from placebo |
| 600 mg to 1,200 mg IV | infusion | commonly reported | clinic drips 1 to 3 times a week; the Indian label for injectable glutathione (Maxiliv) is 300 to 600 mg daily IV or IM for liver indications |
| 200 mg to 400 mg subcutaneous | injection | commonly reported | 2 to 3 times a week, 4 to 8 weeks |
Glutathione dose to units chart
600 mg vial + 3 mL bacteriostatic water = 200 mg/mL (2,000 mcg per unit on a U-100 insulin syringe). 600 mg + 3 mL = 200 mg/mL, so 200 mg = 1 mL = 100 units (a full insulin syringe). 200 mg/mL is near the top of what dissolves; swirl, do not shake, and use within days because reduced glutathione oxidizes fast.
| Dose | mL | Units (U-100) | Doses per vial |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 mg | 5 | 500 | 0 |
| 1,400 mg | 7 | 700 | 0 |

Glutathione dosage questions
How much glutathione to inject subcutaneously?
200 to 400 mg two or three times a week is the common range. At 200 mg/mL that is a full 1 mL syringe per 200 mg, so split 400 mg across two sites. Push slowly; it stings.
What is the IV glutathione dose?
Clinics give 600 to 1,200 mg per drip, one to three times a week. The controlled Parkinson's pilot used 1,400 mg three times a week for 4 weeks with no safety issues. The Indian injectable label is 300 to 600 mg a day for liver indications.
How long does reconstituted glutathione last?
Days, not weeks. Reduced glutathione oxidizes once in water, faster with light and warmth. Mix what you will use within about a week, keep it cold and dark, and discard it if it turns cloudy or yellow.
Is injecting glutathione better than taking it orally?
Oral glutathione is broken down in the gut and raises blood levels little, which is the reason clinics inject it. Injection reliably raises plasma levels. Whether that changes anything you can feel is not shown in a controlled trial.
